L'État C'est Moi: Hilliker as THE Authority on YUFA's Procedures and Constitution
The YUFA Caucus for Democracy
This motion came forward at the YUFA Executive meeting of May 9:
“That an election for the Stewards’ Council Representatives to Executive Committee be conducted which adheres to Stewards’ Council’s Resolution of November 2007, a resolution that provided rules of candidacy eligibility as well as voter eligibility, a resolution which was accepted by YUFA and its Executive Committee, a resolution which remains uncontested to date by YUFA, its Executive Committee, its Stewards’ Council, a resolution which is published in YUFA’s website and has been so since November 2007, and a resolution that was reaffirmed recently by Stewards’ Council at its May meeting.”
The President of YUFA, Arthur Hilliker, ruled this motion out of order. His ruling was challenged. The vote on the challenge was a tie: 3 for his ruling, 3 against, and 2 abstentions. Hilliker then broke the tie by casting a vote in support of his ruling. In so doing, he did more than display his extreme bias (involving a totally partial reading of one lawyer’s opinion). He showed his contempt for the recognized election procedures, which were changed a whole 6 weeks and 4 days into the elections for Stewards’ Council reps to Executive, and 10 days before they closed. As a result of the change, Executive members were suddenly allowed to vote and thus skewed, and probably stole, the results of the election.
