No More Publish or Perish Confirmed
David Noble
It has now been confirmed by History Department chair Nick Rogers that FLAPS Dean-designate Martin Singer has been appointed a full professor in that department, despite the fact that he has no publications to speak of in that discipline. This is an academic appointment, not an administrative appointment, and confirms that York University has abandoned scholarly publication as a criterion in academic evaluation.
All current and future candidates for appointment, promotion, and tenure in FLAPS should take note of this historic precedent and make use of it in the event of a negative review based on the criterion of scholarly achievement, especially in light of the fact that Martin Singer, as Dean, might play a significant role in their review.
